Danger of Overfilling Crankcase?

How bad is it to have the crankcase overfilled by about 1/2 quart?

It is very difficult to remove just 1/2 quart, and to remove more than
a quart or so is expensive because it is Mobil1. On the other hand I
would rather buy all new oil if there is a chance of harming the
engine.

So what should I do?

Shouldn't be too serious. With only 1/2 quart extra, the most I would
expect is possibly a minor decrease in gas mileage.

If it really worries you, you can siphon out the extra oil via the dipstick
tube (or the dealer can do it for you).

I don't know how close the camshaft is, but if you over fill it too
much, then the top of the oil will be whipped by the camshaft and will
"bubble" or "foam" and you don't want bubbles where the oil is
supposed to be. ;-)

I did the same thing except I overfilled it by a quart. I loosened the
oil drain plug and drained about a quart and a half. Yep, it was Mobil
One and expensive. But I just guessing it would be *A LOT* less
expensive than a whole new engine.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong. (I'm definately not a
mechanic!)

yes,because it's the CRANKshaft (pistons connect to it) that whips up the
oil,not the CAMshaft,which is on the top of the engine,and opens the
valves.

If your oil is reaching the camshaft,you REALLY have overfilled it!! 8-)

I would simply remove the oil filter and empty it out...that will probably
get you close enought to where you need to be.
