Are you sure it's a belt or a chain?
Regardless, why do some people often question the Owner's Manual? Some
want to change the recommended oil type or viscosity, others the
coolant type or in this case, the maintenance schedule.
If the maker doesn't know when to change the belt, then who does? If
they state 105,000 miles that's what it is. If you feel better, just
do it at 90K-100K miles. ;-)
Additionally, call the dealer or go by the service department and
ask...that's what I did re: changing my ATF to synthetic...to be SURE
it was okay.
But I WILL say that if you need to do some OTHER engine work before
that time -- let's say a water pump at 60-80K or so -- and that
requires you get pretty far into the engine where it wouldn't be much
more trouble to change go ahead the belt, then do the belt ALSO at
that time...so you don't have to go that far in again anytime soon
just for a belt. This is usually recommended on most of the "enhanced"
maintenenance schedules which is a smarter way to do these things.
Otherwise, I'd do what the manual says...and just enjoy your Odyssey.
